The most prominent of the Muslim jihad groups in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province, Laskar Jihad Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah, called for the death sentence for 16 Christians accused of perpetrating sectarian violence.
The 16 were named on a list provided by Fabianus Tibo, a Christian who was sentenced to death earlier in 2001 with two associates for allegedly masterminding large-scale violence in 2000 in which most of the victims were Muslims. The list includes the head of the Central Sulawesi Christian Church's Crisis Centre, Rinaldy Damanik, a Protestant minister.
