The Philippine government reiterated that it would still resort to capital punishment on " high-profile drug dealers" despite its announcement of a "moratorium on the death penalty" under the Arroyo administration.
Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said the incumbent administration "opposes anti-life and anti-family" legislation, and had implemented a moratorium on capital punishment.
However, high-profile drug cases "are exempted from such phasing-out process," he said.
