The Philippine presidential palace reiterated the position of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to implement capital punishment within the year. "Maybe not on the exact date as planned but definitely some executions will be carried out within the year," the palace quoted Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye as saying in a press statement. Bunye said Arroyo received advice from various quarters, particularly on the date of convicted rapist Rolando Padayawon's execution, the first of its kind under her administration.
