The Shanghai No 2 Intermediate People's Court sentenced to death Zhang Liangwu for murder. Zhang, a local man, had earlier served 18 years for rape and robbery. He was released in 1999, court officials said. On January 17, Zhang reportedly met a woman in Baoshan District and began assailing her with obscenities. The woman chided Zhang, who threatened her with a fruit knife and then stabbed her in the stomach and neck. The woman reportedly died on the spot. Zhang fled with her cell phone and handbag.
