The Shanghai Railway Intermediate People's Court sentenced Zhou Wenling to death for a murder he committed in Nanjing in 1994.
It was alleged the 37-year-old Jiangsu native worked in a factory in Nanjing when the murder took place.
He met a woman in a dance hall in the city in October of that year and took her to his dorm room in the factory that night.
Romance turned to violence, however, after the couple began to quarrel. Enraged, Zhou reportedly beat the woman to death and threw her body in a nearby river. The woman's body wasn't discovered until November 5 of that year.
Police in Xinjiang captured Zhou on September 10, 2003.
