The state Supreme Court on Monday overturned the death penalty of Jesus Cianez Hernandez, convicted for the January 1988 murder of Esther Alvarado, a drug-addicted prostitute. The court said the trial's penalty phase had numerous errors including the use of unacceptable evidence and failure to give the jury proper instructions.
