The substitution of the death penalty with imprisonment for life will raise the efficiency of punishment, Minister of the Interior Yurii Kravchenko said. "Shooting and then forgetting about a criminal does not mean any influence on the mass consciousness," he told a press conference in Kharkiv. "But with a certain stage-by-stage project, when the life of convicts behind the bars is exhibited, it will bring more effective prevention of grave crimes", the minister noted.
