the Supreme Court suspended the death penalty for two of the four men sentenced to death for raping and murdering a young student. On March 13, 2014, the Delhi High Court confirmed death penalty to all four convicts of the December 16, 2012 Delhi gangrape and murder case. The four were convicted in September 2013 for raping and murdering a 23-year-old paramedical student.
The defence lawyer, unhappy with the verdicts, said that the convicts wanted to move the Supreme Court against the order.
The trial court had on September 13, 2013, awarded the death penalty to the four convicts - Mukesh (26), Akshay Thakur (28), Pawan Gupta (19) and Vinay Sharma (20) - for raping the 23-year-old victim on a moving bus in south Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012.
