The Tokyo High Court upheld a death sentence for one of five Aum Supreme Truth members who released sarin nerve gas on Tokyo subway trains. Masato Yokoyama's defence counsel had demanded that the sentence should be lessened because no one died on a train on which he sprayed the Nazi-invented lethal gas in the 1995 random attack which killed 12 and injured more than 5,000.
"He has been considerably involved in the crime from its planning stage and his criminal responsibility is so grave that he deserves nothing but a death penalty," presiding judge Kunio Harada said.
