The Vatican ambassador to Uganda, Archbishop Christophe Pierre, reaffirmed the Catholic church's strong stand against the death penalty which is still used in many countries. The papal envoy was addressing leaders of the Catholic laity in the Catholic Diocese of Kasese at the bishop's residence. "The Catholic Church is strongly against the death penalty. The Pope is against it because it does not help to reduce crime at all," Pierre said.
