Thousands of people - mostly women wearing national costumes and youths - welcomed the leaders of the Kurdish based People's Democracy Party, HADEP, at the foot of the Agri mountain shouting "No to the death penalty".
HADEP leader Murat Bozlak noted that the recent constitutional amendments were made for the sake of adjustment to the EU. Bozlak said: "Had they asked you about your requests, they would have asked, "do you want the death penalty?"
Bozlak reiterated demands for the removal of the state of emergency, the abolition of the village guard system, and the passing of a general amnesty.
