Three Australian law students from Victoria are in the United States helping provide legal representation for inmates on death row.
Olivia Henderson, Nicholas Button and Marissa Dreher are completing a three-month internship program at legal assistance centres in New Orleans. The Monash University students are working on trial preparation, appeals and advocacy for prisoners on death row.
"Working with ... people intensely committed to ending the death penalty has been inspiring," Button said in a statement.
"Nonetheless, many aspects of the work are confronting, even shocking at times and nothing prepares you for the reality of the death penalty system."
