Tiffany Cole was sentenced today to 2 death sentences

Tiffany Cole was sentenced today to 2 death sentences. Last year, on Nov. 30, 2007, a jury voted 9-to-3 that Cole should receive the death penalty. The final decision was up to Judge Michael Weatherby, who sentenced her to a death sentence for the murders and life in prison on the kidnapping charge. Cole, 26, white, is the fourth person convicted of taking the Sumners, both 61, from their home in 2005, robbing them and then burying them alive in a shallow grave.
Two of the other three are already on death row. Michael Jackson, who prosecutors called the ringleader of the plot to kidnap and kill the couple so they could use their credit cards, was sentenced on August 29, 2007 (see). On Tuesday, Alan Wade was also sentenced to death. Cole becomes the only woman on Florida's death row.  Virginia Larzelere was also on death row, but the Florida Supreme Court last week upheld a lower court ruling overturning her sentencing and ordering a new hearing (see Feb. 2008). Florida has executed two women since re-instating the death penalty: serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2002 and Judy Buenoano, convicted of poisoning her husband, in 1998.
