Two men convicted of murder were publicly executed at the Mazar-e Sharif [Balkh Province, northern Afghanistan] sports ground.
The Bakhtar Information Agency reported that Ghawsoddin, son of Abdol Jabar and a resident of Sar-e Pol Province, had killed Gul Haider and Gholam Qader, sons of Mawlan. He was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court following testimonies by witnesses.
Another murderer, Sayd Ebadollah, son of Sayd Jafar and a resident of Sheberghan, was executed for killing Shahestakhan, daughter of Sayd Ahmad and a resident of Mazar-e Sharif. He had entered her house with the aim of robbing her belongings and admitted to his crime during the investigation. The execution order was applied to the murders by the heirs of the deceased.
According to another report, an adulterer, Besmillah, son of Mohammad Bakht, a resident of Kabul, and an adulteress were sentenced to 100 shari'ah lashes for committing the unlawful act of adultery. Shari'ah law of 100 lashes was applied to them at a public meeting.
