a High Court session in Gulu sentenced six people hang for murder, as 12 judges are in northern Uganda to clear a backlog of over 500 criminal cases. Santo Bongomin, a former LRA collaborator, was sentenced to death for plotting kill a family of nine in 1998 at Lamin-Oywek in Paicho sub county, Aswa county.
Justice Peter Onega also sentenced to death three youths, Christopher Ojok, Innocent Akera and Michael Loum, for robbing and murdering Fr. Luciano Fluvis at his resident at Layibi in Gulu town on March 3, 2004.
Bosco Onyabo was sentenced to death for murdering Peter Otto on July 10, 2001 at Patalira in Patiko sub-county, Aswa county. Onyabo, and others who are still at large, killed Otto for failing to give them the sh200,000 they demanded to spare his life.
Nicholas Otim was sentenced to hang for murdering Justine Acaye six years ago in Kal-Oguro parish, Pabbo sub-county in Kilak county.
The same court acquitted Albino Lapyem alias Oroko-Cogo, a former account assistant at Gulu municipal council, of charges of defilement. Under the Ugandan Penal Code, defilement of a girl under the age of 18 is a capital offence.
