Uganda's Army Commander Maj. Gen. James Kazini Kazini made his first public comment about the two UPDF soldiers recently executed by firing squad in Kotido for allegedly killing Irish priest Fr. Declan O'Toole and his two aides (Fidelis Longole and Patrick Longoli) on March 21. Kazini said the two soldiers were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
According to the evidence adduced, their trial over two days was even too long.
"It should have lasted only two minutes," Kazini said. Military investigators and Karimojong civilians tracked Private Muhammad Abdulla and Cpl. James Omedio from the scene of the murder for several miles into the bush, and the trail led back to their detachment at Kalosarich.
"The first soldier confessed and pleaded that he was not alone but with an accomplice," Kazini said.
