A Kern County jury has recommended the death penalty for Francisco Beltran. Beltran was convicted last month of first degree murder in death of Ruben Tafoya and the attempted murder of Antonio Galvan. Prosecutors say Beltran shot and killed Ruben Tafoya on January 24, 2010 on Columbus Street, because the victim had apparently disrespected him. Prosecutors say Beltran had also shot Antonio Galvan in December 2009 and severely wounded him in a robbery with other gang members. Beltran was an active member of the Varrio Baker Sureno Gang. He's scheduled to be sentenced on November 22.
