USA - California. A jury sentenced Sherhaun Kerod Brown, 34, black, to death

A San Bernardino County jury has recommended that Sherhaun Kerod Brown, 34, black, should receive the death penalty after he raped and slashed the throat of a woman and killed her mother-in-law, Kristy Vert, on May 7, 2007. Sentencing by Judge Eric M. Nakata in Victorville Superior Court is scheduled for April 6. The Sun does not publish names of victims of sex-related offenses. The surviving victim, whose throat was slashed, went to a neighbor's house for help. She was taken by helicopter to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Brown was arrested later the same day with the victim's stolen car.
