USA - Illinois. Former Chicago police detective Jon Burge has been arrested.

Former death row inmate's mother pleased with former cop's arrested. The mother of a former death row inmate who for years maintained he was tortured into confessing by Chicago police detectives under the command of Jon Burge says she's glad Burge has finally been arrested. Jo Ann Patterson says she wonders why it took several years but she sees it as justice that the former Chicago police commander was arrested today and taken into custody. Patterson's son is Aaron Patterson. He was 1 of 4 former death row inmates pardoned by then-Governor George Ryan in 2003 because they were tortured. Patterson and the others ultimately settled lawsuits with the city. Aaron Patterson is now serving a 30-year prison sentence after being convicted on federal drug and firearms charges.
