The 8th U.S. Court of Appeals in St. Louis In St. Louis halted the execution of Reginald Clemons, who had been scheduled to be put to death on June 17. The 1-page, unsigned opinion of did not state a reason for why it issued the ruling. Clemons' lawyers had filed a motion for a stay of execution on May 29, saying that Clemons would be executed before a federal court in the western district of Missouri had a chance to rule on his pending challenge to the constitutionality of Missouri's execution procedures. Clemons, 37, was convicted in 1993 of two counts of 1st-degree murder. He has maintained his innocence. Juries also found Marlin Gray, Antonio Richardson and Daniel Winfrey guilty of a role in the rape and murder of Julie Kerry, 20, and her sister Robin, 19.
