USA - Ohio. A jury has recommended the death penalty for Matthew Nicholson

A Cuyahoga County jury has recommended the death penalty for Matthew Nicholson, 30, Black. Nicholson was previously convicted by the same jury of multiple counts of aggravated murder in the Sept. 5, 2018 slayings of Giselle Lopez, 19, and Manuel Lopez, 17. Nicholson attacked his girlfriend America Polanco, the teens’ mother, after finding text messages on her cellphone that made him think she was cheating on him, according to prosecutors. Nicholson was arrested after a four-hour standoff with a SWAT team. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Timothy McCormick scheduled the sentencing for Nov. 13.
