March 7, 2001: Hands off Cain appeals for solidarity with women on death row all over the world. Marietta Bosch, a South African woman condemned to death for murder, awaits the hangman in Botswana.
Hands off Cain dedicates Women’s Day to all the women on death rows all over the world, especially those forgotten by everyone as they await execution. In particular we are launching an appeal for Marietta Bosch who is on death row for the murder of Maria Wolmarans, her husband’s first wife. Her hopes now lie with the President of Botswana, Festus Mogae, who is the only person able to grant a pardon and thus save her from execution after her latest appeals were turned down.Her last hope for living lies with President Festus Mogae, who is empowered to grant pardon. Hands off Cain appeals to President Mogae through this website, through a petition being distributed by Hands off Cain activists.
February 6, 2001: the National Council of Iranian Resistance said that three women have been sentenced to stoning since the beginning of the year. On January 16th the Supreme Court confirmed the death sentence by stoning to Maryam Ayoubi, 31, convicted of killing her husband and burying his body with the help of her lover. According to Islamic law she will be buried up to her chest, if she manages to free herself once the stoning begins she will be sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
February 19, 2001: two women were sentenced to death in Somalia after it was revealed that they had been living together as ‘husband and wife’ and thus found guilty of ‘unnatural behaviour’ according to Sharia law, to which the Somalian penal code inspires itself to.
February 22, 2001: Mua Wongsorn,60, was sentenced to death in Thailand for drug trafficking.
January 15, 2001: Saudi Arabia executed two women, mother and daughter, for killing their husband and father, whose body they burned in the desert.
February 23, 2001: two women, known only as Wakila and Sadofi, were publicly executed in front of thousands of people at the sports stadium of Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan. The women had been accused of adultery according to Sharia law, and thus executed for reasons ‘moral corruption and social perversion’.

January 11, 2001: Li Yufen, 37, was sentenced to death for fraud in China.
