Xu Ming, Luo Shoujun, Cao Zhenjun, three members of a mafia-like gang, were sentenced to death by an intermediate court in Dalian city, Liaoning province in northeastern China, for theft, assault and kidnapping. The group was convicted of the January 1999 theft of a bank draft worth five million yuan (603,000 dollars). During the armed robbery the gang also stole 21,000 yuan in cash, 2,000 Hong Kong dollars, company seals and other property and were convicted of assault, robbery and kidnapping. A total of 11 gang members were convicted in the case, while two others were sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve.
