Yasser al-Sirri, an Egyptian living in London, was charged with conspiring to murder the leader of Afghanistan's Northern Alliance, Ahmed Shah Masood.
Al-Sirri, 38, was also accused of soliciting support for a banned organisation - the Egyptian radical group al-Gamaa al-Islamiyya - soliciting funds for terrorism and stirring up racial hatred.
Mr al-Sirri has been sentenced to death in Egypt, where security officials allege he was high up in the military wing of Islamic Jihad - the terrorist group blamed for the 1981 assassination of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat and a series of assassination attempts in the 1990s.
