Zhuo Changren and Jiang Honjun, two Chinese defectors, were executed for kidnapping and murdering a Taiwanese man in 1991. Local television footage showed the two, sentenced to death for the kidnap and murder of Taiwan businessman Wang Chun-chieh, being taken for execution at the Taipei Detention Center. "Long live the Republic of China! I'm innocent," Zhuo shouted to the media in his last words before entering a van which took him to the execution centre.
The duo, along with a third defendant Shi Xiaoning who was sentenced to life imprisonment, had kidnapped Wang and demanded a ransom of T$50 million from his family. Wang's body was found in his car in August 1991.
