Justice Wilson Sandura of the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe confirmed the death sentenced imposed on Mamukwa by the High Court. Mamukwa was charged with the murder of his wife's two year old son Munashe Chagweda. Munashe died after being strangled by Mamukwa, who had been left in custody of the minor, in October 1999, as the mother had gone to visit relatives in the neighbouring village. Mamukwa had pleaded not guilty claiming that the child had fallen on a jagged rock, however the court found overwhelming evidence and convicted him.
The boy died a few hours before being taken to hospital, where a post-mortem report revealed that the boy died from strangulation.
