A court in China sentenced a female hospital executive to death for embezzling 10.98m yuan (1.32m US dollars) of public money.
The Beijing Municipal Higher People's Court, which handed out the final verdict, heard that Shi Qiaoling embezzled the money from the Tumour Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences between January 1996 and December 1999, when she was director of the hospital's wards.
She obtained the bulk of the money through false claims for refunds from the hospital, which she orchestrated with the assistance of another person.
