The former deputy mayor of Leshan city in southwest China's Sichuan Province was sentenced to death for taking bribes from companies vying for freeway contracts, the state-run news agency Xinhua reported.
Li Yushu was convicted by the Sichuan Provincial People's Higher Court for extorting bribes worth 8.93 million yuan (($1.08 million), as well as two luxury automobiles and a Rolex watch, from the firms, the report said.
