A painter was sentenced to death by the High Court in Ipoh, Malysia for trafficking in 420gm of ganja.
Lee Kuan Woh, 25, of Taman Chempaka, was found guilty of committing the offence on April 4, 2000.
He was charged under Section 39B (1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the death sentence on conviction.
Justice Datuk Abdull Hamid Embong, in convicting Lee, said that the prosecution had proven its case against him. He said that Lee was found with the drugs in his hands and he knew what he was carrying.
Defence counsel Ranjit Singh said that its was Lee's first offence.
In passing sentence, Justice Abdull Hamid said that drug trafficking had caused sufferings to society and a person involved in such activities could be categorised as a "silent terrorist".
He also said that drugs had proven to be the number enemy of the country.
