a special court in Chittagong, Bangladesh, convicted four Chhatra League leaders and sentenced two of them to death and two to life imprisonment for the murder of Ataur Rahman Mamun, leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Those sentenced to death were Ratan Shikder and Rezwan Ahmed alias Rizu. According to the prosecution, the convicts swooped on Mamun, then-vice president of the college unit of pro-BNP Chhatra Dal, and shot him to death on April 20, 1997.
