Amnesty International commended Kenya's new government for taking positive steps on human rights, but urged the team set up by President Mwai Kibaki to probe abuses committed in the past. "AI welcomes the positive signs for human rights in Kenya, such as expression of commitment to abolish the death penalty, prosecute suspected perpetrators and provide compensation to survivors of torture," the London-based human rights watchdog said in a statement.
