BANGLADESH. MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH AND TWO OTHERS TO LIFE FOR MURDER OF TRADER

the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, sentenced Akter Hossain, 40, to death and Dulal and Anwar, both 35, to life imprisonment for the murder of cloth trader Afsar Ali. According to the prosecution, Hossain called Afsar out from his house at Kharoil village, Mohonpur, on the evening of May 26, 2000. "After a while, his cries were heard from a distance," said a court statement. Neighbors rushed out to the scene and found Afsar stabbed to death. Akhter had been a former employee of the cloth trader and out of previous enmity had stabbed him to death with the help of his two accomplices, said the prosecution.
