judge Shafiqul Karim of the Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal, Bangladesh, sentenced a man to death in absentia for murdering a woman on March 31, 2007. M Jabed Jahangir of village West Dhemsha Samaddarpara in Satkania upazila of the district allegedly rented a house in the city, staying with a girl named Riya. After Jabed fled the house, the owner Shahidur Rahman discovered the woman’s body.
