BANGLADESH. THREE PEOPLE SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER

three men were sentenced to death for shooting down two people in the Sherpur district of Bangladesh during a gang attack. Those condemned were Anis, 38, and Nazrul Islam, 40, of Shimla Satbaria in the Sherpur district and Jalal Uddin, 45, of Khosalpur in the Taras district of Sirajganj. The three were also fined fined Tk 20,000 each. According to the prosecution, a gang of 26 robbers opened fire and killed two people at Piroil village in Sherpur while they were committing a series of robberies on the night of December 26, 1999. Two of the convicts, Nazrul and Jalal, were tried in absentia as they were in hiding.
