BANGLADESH. TWO MEN SENTENCED TO DEATH IN COMILLA

two people were sentenced to death and two others were sentenced to life imprisonment by an Additional District and Session court in Comilla, Bangladesh, after being convicted of murdering Zahirul Islam.

Those sentenced to death were Monirul Islam Monir of Rajameher village and Abul Kalam Azad Babul, of the same village, the latter was tried in absentia. Those sentenced to life were Abul Bashar Sikder alias Bhashani and Salahuddin Sikder who, like Babul, was also absconding. According to the prosecution, the accused went with Zahirul Islam to Nandanpur on April 24, 2002 where Zahirul was made unconscious with intoxicating substances. Zahirul was later hacked him to death at Hatimara Tila in the Lalmai area. The motive for the crime was not known.
