Delwar Hossain was sentenced to death in absentia by the district of Comilla, Bangladesh, for the murder of acting principal Syed Hafizuddin Ahmed of Badiul Alam College in 2001. The court also awarded life imprisonment to six co-accused: Habibur Rahman and Kamaluddin alias Pichhi Kamal in the dock and Bazlur Rahman, Dulal Mia, Firoz Mia and Momen who remained fugitive. According to the prosecution, the convicts entered the Badiul Alam College at Muradnagar on August 9, 2001 whilst Syed Hafizuddin was holding a meeting with his colleagues. They picked a quarrel with the principal and at one stage they pulled him down to the ground and shot him in the chest.
