three unidentified men, convicted of the murder of a journalist in the Democratic Republic of Congo were sentenced to death, judicial sources said. The three suspects, including an ex-soldier who deserted from the armed forces of the former Zaire, had been on trial before a military tribunal in Matete, east of the capital Kinshasa. They were arrested in July 2006 in Matadi, some 365 kilometres southwest of Kinshasa, in possession of an automatic weapon. Authorities accused them of entering the home of Louis Bapuwa Mwamba, 64, and shooting him in the leg before fleeing with mobile phones. The journalist died from the wound.
