Firoj, 32, was sentenced to death by a court in Bangladesh for killing his cousin. The tribunal acquitted seven others accused in the case, as their guilt had not been proved beyond doubt. According to the prosecution, Firoj and his accomplices killed Nazrul Islam, a university student, when he was asleep in his home at about 3am on May 20, 2000. It was alleged that Firoj, cousin and close neighbour of Nazrul, wanted to marry his sister Bedana Akter. But Nazrul was strictly against giving his sister's hand to Firoj, which made the latter resort to murder.
