Four members of a criminal gang were sentenced to death by the Karaganda Regional court in Kazakhstan after being found guilty of murdering five lorry drivers between February and June 2002.
Pretending to be clients, the gang members allegedly proposed that their future victims earn money by transporting goods, they then killed them when their lorries were on a deserted road. The corpses were hidden, whilst the lorries were dismantled and their parts sold.
The court established that the murders of all five people were planned in advance and committed with particular brutality, with the corpse of one of those murdered dismembered and hidden in the cellar of the garage of one of the gang members.
The convicts' lawyers said that they intend to appeal against this verdict to the Supreme Court.
