Gholam Ghaws was executed in public at the sports stadium of the Herat Province. He was accused of killing a family of five in Herat (town) and had acknowledged his guilt. The Primary Criminal Court of the Herat Province passed the death sentence and the Supreme Court approved the decision. The ruling was also approved and signed by Amir ul-Momenin, the head of the Taleban ruling party.
Senior provincial officials present at the execution spoke about the importance of implementing Shariah laws in the social lives of the people. "The application of the Shariah law plays a primary and important role in regulating public affairs and preventing the commitment of inadmissible and unlawful deeds in the country, and in this way it leads people and society towards further development. Since the establishment of the authority of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the application of the Shariah law against offenders of unlawful and inadmissible acts, the commitment of unlawful crimes in the country is under control and has decreased."
