the Karnataka High Court in India upheld the death penalty given to ex-CRPF soldier Umesh Reddy in a rape-cum-murder case. Umesh was awarded capital punishment in 2007 by a lower court for the rape and murder of a woman named Jayashree in 1998. Umesh has at least eight more reported cases of rape and murder pending against him. Jayashree, a housewife, was brutally assaulted and killed in Peenya on February 28, 1998.
