Islamists in Jordan were outraged by the publication of a poem titled "Joseph," written by poet Musa Hawamdeh. Islamists said the poem violated the story of Surat Yossef (Story of Joseph) as told in the Couran. Theeb Anees, head of the Islamic Action Front's branch in Zarqa and former member of the lower house claimed that "the poet degrades the behaviour of the Prophet while defending the woman who tried to seduce him." He said that Hawamdeh was an apostate who should be punished by the full extent of the law. "The responsible authorities must, under the power of the law, end his marriage and implement Islamic law, which calls for the death penalty for those who defy religion".
