Jahangir Hossain Bhuiyan was sentenced to death in absentia by the District and Sessions Court in Chandpur, Bangladesh, for killing his two sisters by throwing them into the Meghna river. According to the prosecution, the accused took his two younger sisters, Amena Khatoon, 13 and Sayera Khatoon, 7, to the bank of the Meghna river to take their photograph. He then gave them fishing nets to hold before pushing them in the river and fleeing the scene. A man named Sayed reportedly tried to rescue them but Jahangir prevented him.
