James Clayton, 32, black, was executed by lethal injection. He had been convicted of kidnapping and murdering Lory M. Barrett, a 27 year old, white woman, on 17th September 1987. He was the 18th person to be executed in the State during the year, No 217 since the State resumed executions in 1974. He was the 38th to be put to death in the U.S. during the year and No 636 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
