Mohammad Alamgir was sentenced to death by a district court in Bangladesh for the murder of a UP member at Kamrangir Char. According to the prosecution, Mohammad Ishaque, 45, a popular UP member for 31 years, had rebuked Alamgir for teasing a girl of the area. He also threatened the unwanted lover of severe action. 
On February 28, 2001 Alamgir hit Ishaque hard on the head with a hammer whilst the latter was in a shop. Fatally injured he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died. Police arrested Alamgir who admitted his guilt during interrogation.
