Nguyen Cong Tuan and Nguyen Van Giang were sentenced to death after being convicted by a court in Vietnam's southern commercial hub of Ho Chi Hinh City of murdering a friend in order to loot his house. The two had been found guilty of strangling Dinh Hoang Tien, who had invited them to his house in February 2003. The court found that Giang throttled the victim while Tuan gagged him with a cloth until he died. The pair then fled with Tien's motorbike, mobile phone and jewellery. They were arrested in November 2003.
