On December 6, Iraqi sources confirmed that the death sentence was carried out on Shaykh Muhammad al-Nu'mani, who was related by marriage to well-known Islamic intellectual Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, executed along with his sister, Bint al-Huda, in 1980 for his opposition activity. Shaykh Nu'mani was arrested on the border between Iraq and Iran in the governorate of Basra while attempting to flee with his wife to Iran. The authorities handed his wife over to Hojjat ol-Eslam Husayn al-Sadr in Kazimiyah in Baghdad shortly before the execution of her husband. The execution of Shaykh Abd al-Razzaq al-Rabi'i (Friday imam), Kazim al-Safi, the Kut assistant Friday imam, and 14 other clerics, including Friday imams as well as students from the religious seminary in the central Iraqi town of Najaf were also confirmed. Iraqi sources also mentioned that the death sentence had been passed on Ka'bi, the imam of the Muhsin Mosque in Thawrah City in Baghdad after he organized a symbolic funeral procession for Sayyid al-Sadr, which was then fired upon by the security forces, leading to the death and injury of dozens of mourners. Death sentences were also passed on Shaykhs Ala al-Shuwayli of Thawrah City, Salim and Nasir al-Sa'idi and Hadi al-Muhammadawi.
