Sultan Sartayev, former chief of the Presidential Committee for Pardon of Condemned, said 90% of the population in Kazakhstan is against the abolishment of the death penalty.
"I think such punishment as life imprisonment must not exist. On one hand - it is daily agonising death for the condemned, and the other, the state bears unreasonable expenses," Sartayev said in an interview on his new book A Word before Conscience and Scaffold.
