The Florida Supreme Court unanimously reinstated the death sentence given to Thomas Knight for fatally stabbing a guard in 1980. A trial court had ordered that Knight get a new sentencing hearing. Only three people have been on Florida's death row longer than Knight, who spent 9 years in solitary confinement, and changed his name to Askari Abdullah Muhammed. Knight was originally condemned for the 1974 murders of Sidney and Lillian Gans. He had been on death row for 6 years when he killed Richard Burke with the sharpened end of a spoon.
