The Military Tribunal convicted 14 people of forming an espionage ring and carrying out assassinations for Israel.
Three of the collaborators, Charbel Youssef Jabbour, Tony Kamal Tayyar and Mounir Ibrahim al-Hashem, were condemned to death in absentia. A fourth, Charbel Youssef Mezher, was sentenced in absentia to 20 years in prison.
According to court records, the spy ring was supervised by Israeli intelligence and Aql Hashem, the second-in-command of the now-disbanded South Lebanon Army, Israel's proxy militia in the former occupied zone. Ten other members of the spy ring received prison sentences ranging from eight months to three years.
